In early-2000’s, lot of NRI talents were being associated with the Kannada movies (Mano Murthy, Deepali). The NRI talent wanted to show their movies to the local community. This actually gave a huge lift in expanding the Kannada market. The box problem still existed (shipping overhead and cost of the print), but response from the audiences were encouraging. 5-6 films were released every year.
In 2005, Actor Producer Director Mr. Dwarakish visited USA to screen his blockbuster movie “Apthamitra”; He was very surprised that there were only 500 people to watch the movie in the Bay Area, California. The movie was a golden jubilee movie in India and broke all the records. Dwarakish told the media, Kannada movies doesn’t have any market compared to all languages. I could not even recover my flight charges and print cost as well.
