Music director and producer Renu Kumar has filed a petition in the Karnataka High Court on Wednesday to stay the forthcoming State Awards function being held at Dharwad on Sunday.

Renu Kumar's debut direction film 'Shabdhamani' was acknowledged the third best film by the Bharathi Vishnuvardhan committee. The High Court cancelled the awards as well as the committee and had ordered the Government to set up a new committee to select the awards for the year 2010-11 as Priya Hassan and Basanth Kumar Patil moved to High Court against the Committee’s decision. The Government in turn appointed a committee headed by veteran director S K Bhagawan to select the awards. The S K Bhagawan committee did not select 'Shabdhamani' in any category.
