The Kannada Sahitya Parishat has announced that it is against dubbing of films into Kannada. This comes just two days before an anti-dubbing rally is to be held in Bangalore. It is of significance because it was Kannada Sahitya Parishat which took the lead against dubbing of films into Kannada in the 1960s.
Writer Aa Na Krishna Rao in his speech as the president of the All India Kannada Sahitya Sammelana held in Bangalore in 1960, spoke against dubbing. To stop dubbing was one of the seven resolutions of that Sammelana. Again in the Sammelana held in Bijapur, Ko Chennabasappa called for a legal ban on dubbing. During the 1960s, it was the Sahitya Parishat which took the lead in opposing dubbing of films from other languages into Kannada.
Writer Chandrashekar Patil said that the Parishat is against. Patil said that producers who just invest money on films do not understand how badly dubbing affects the language.
