Veteran actress Bharati Vishnuvardhan has been nominated for a honorary doctorate from Mysore University. This comes two years after late actor and her husband Vishnuvardhan being conferred honorary doctorate from Bangalore university
Bharati has acted in films in five different Indian languages viz Kannada, Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam and Hindi. For three decades from the 1960s she played lead roles in films. Her prominant Kannada films include Bangaaradha Manushya, Doorada Betta, Gandondu Hennaru, Bangaarada Jinke, Avalukendru Oru Manam and Bhagya Jyoti. She acted alongside Vishnuvardhan in many films. Her films in Hindi include Purab Aur Pashchim, Khel, Uttar Dakshin, Izzatdaar, Kunwaara Baap and Aao Pyaar Karen.
Bharathi acted with top actors in Tamil and Telugu including Sivaji Ganesan, MG Ramachandran,, Gemini Ganesan, Akkineni Nageswara Rao and others. She married
Vishnuvardhan on 27 February 1975. She continued to act in films after that. The 58-year-old actress is one of the highly respected stars in Sandalwood. After Rajkmar, B Saroja Devi, Vishnuvardhan and Ashwath she becomes another film actor to be awarded a honorary doctorate.
