Big budget Bollywood film 'Kites', starring Hrithik Roshan and Barbara Mori, slated to be released all over the world Friday, is not to be screened in Karnataka . A decision has been taken by the Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce that the film should not be allowed to be screened as the distributors did not attend the emergency meeting organised by the KFCC.
In a special executive meeting on Thursday, the Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce (KFCC) decided that 'Kites' will not be screened in any theatre in Karnataka.
Basanth Kumar Patil, president of KFCC told newsman that the executive meeting decided against allowing the film's screening because its makers have gone against the regulatory principles of the chamber with regard to non Kannada films'. Kites is being released in Karnataka by Reliance Group Big films.
'The film's release will be detrimental to the interest of Kannada cinema if it is allowed to be screened all over,' Patil said.
According to the advertisements of the film it would have had 157 shows per day from Friday. Big Pictures had declined to scale down this number. Reliance big picures, the distributors had earlier given an undertaking that they will release the film in not more than 22 screens as per chamber rules.
The KFCC has asked actors and all film fraternity to support its decision and participate in a protest on Friday
