Actor Kishore has joined hands with local youth in Channagiri taluk to rejuvenate the Sulekere or Shanti Sagara, which is famous as the second largest irrigation tank in Asia. Over the years silt deposits has filled up the tank and the storage capacity has reduced.
There is also allegation of encroachment of the 6,500 acre lake. The tank irrigates fields in around 50 villages. It was built in the 12th Century more than 800 years ago. Actress and director Roopa Iyer was also present when Dr Shivamurthy Shivacharya swamiji started the tank rejuvenation programme today. Kishore who is also an agriculturist said that it was very important to save lakes and water bodies and there was an urgent need to protect this lake.
He promised the locals that he would do everything in his power to get the work done.
