The Telugu film ‘Shankarabharanam’(a musical master piece in the late eighties) fame actor J.V.Somayajulu died in Hyderabad after a month long illness. He was 76 years. He is survived by wife Kanakalakshmi two sons and one daughter. He has acted in a few Kannada, Tamil and Malayalam films. The last Kannada film he had acted was ‘Ondagona Baa’ for producer Rockline Venkatesh in Kannada. He has given a very strong performance and a song Ajja Aladhamara….. was shot on him.
After the musical silver jubilee hit ‘Shankarabharanam’ he was known as Shanker Shastri throughout South India. He made debut in acting in 1979 from Telugu film ‘Ra Ra Krishnaiah’ and the breakthrough from ‘Shankarabharanam’ kept him very busy. He has so far acted in 160 films in major South Indian languages. A state government employee at Vizianagaram district Somayajulu retired as deputy collector and later served as director of Cultural affairs.
The last time he addressed the Kannada film journalists at the audio release of ‘Ondagona Baa’ in Hotel Ashok Somayajulu recalled his days of ‘Shankarabharanam’ and disclosed what K.Vishwanathji has done a role in Telugu he is repeating it in Kannada remake ‘Ondagona Baa’.
