Well known actresses Bhavana Menon and Rachita Ram has danced with Upendra and Sudeep for a special song for the film 'Mukunda Murari'. The shooting for the film was almost complete except for a song and the final song of the film has also been picturised in a specially erected set. Upendra was present on the first day of the shooting and today Sudeep danced with Bhavana and Rachita Ram.

Apart from Upendra, Sudeep and Nikitha, actor Ravishankar, Avinash, Tabla Nani have also played prominent roles in the film. The film is being produced by M N Kumar and senior producer Jayasri Devi is presenting the film.

Last week's releases: Sudeep, Upendra starrer Mukunda Murari and Yash starrer Santhu Straight Forward had created lot of curiosity not only in the film industry circles but also with the audience.

There was lot of expectations for both the movies and both movies are doing very good collections at the box office. According to Gandhinagar trade pundits Mukunda Murari will collect around 10 crores share to the producers and Santhu Straight Forward will collect around Rs 12 crores to producer in the first week. They said releasing both the star movies on the same day was both an advantage and also a disadvantage. The advantage is that almost all screens in Karnataka are screening Kannada films. The disadvantage is that with the clash of the big producers each producer may lose around Rs 2-3 crores in the first week. Each of these films would have collected an additional Rs 2 crore each if released solo.

Speaking to Chitraloka Santhu producer K Manju said he is very happy with the response for the movie. "Distributor Jayanna said this movie may not do the collections what we had got from Masterpiece in the first week, but definitely it will cross more than Rs 10 crores in the first week," he said.

Mukunda Murari BKT distributor Jack Manju told Mukunda is doing very well. The reports coming is very good. It will pick up in the second week since family audience are turning towards the theaters.

The three stars, Upendra, Sudeep and Yash, who are involved in this clash are all stars in their own right. Let us see how they have fared since 2010. 

Upendra: Upendra is always known for doing things differently and for having thoughts and ideas that are unique and peculiar. People are always curious about his films, whether he directs them or only acts in them. He gave a super hit movie in his 2010 directorial Super. In 2011 another hit came in the form of Shrimathi. In 2012 Aarakshaka was an average hit but the first Kannada 3D Movie Katari Veera Surasundarangi was a sensation followed by Godfather and Kalpana. In 2013 Topiwala got back the money to the producer and in 2014 Brahma and Super Ranga were hits. In 2015 Shivam was one of the costilets movies followed by his directional movie Uppi2. This year Kaplana 2 was another hit.

Sudeep: Sudeep's movies in 2010 Just Maath Maathalli, Mr Theertha, Kiccha Huccha and Veera Parampare got back money to producers. Kempe Gowda and Vishnuvardhana were  blockbusters in 2011.  Once Sudeep movie Eega was released in 2012 Sudeep became an all-Indian actor and lot of expectations started building up for his movies. In 2013 Varadhanayaka did well and Bachchan was a hit movie. Sudeep directed and acted movie Maanikya looted the box office. Same thing repeated in Ranna in 2015. This years Kotigobba 2 created all-time record in Sudeep's career.

Yash: Yash movie Modalasala was released in 2010 which was an average hit. In 2011 Rajadhani was agaion an average but Kirataka made profit. In 2012 Lucky and Jaanu made profit. The movie Drama was released in the same year and from this movie luck turned in favour of Yash. Googly released in 2013 and Gajakesari released in 2014 sealed the top position of Yash. Mr and Mrs Ramachari released in the same year created an all time box office record. Masterpiece released in 2015 was a smashing hit and it collected nearly 13.8 crores in the first week itself.

Now let us see what happens to Sudeep, Upendra and Yash acted movies which is getting released on 28th. Mukunda Murari is Censored and they are not going to change the release date. The only way to avoid a clash is for K Manju to postpone the release date of Santhu Straight Forward. But Manju has clearly said that he will not do it and has announced the release date. 

Mukunda Murari is produced by MN Kumar who is one of the top line producers, distributor and exhibitor. He himself has more than 80 theatres under his control. For BKT areas Mysore Talkies is doing the distribution. Santhu Straight forward is produced by another top line producer K Manju. Both MN Kumar and K Manju are close friends

For Santhu Straight Forward the entire Karnataka distribution is taken care of by Jayanna who is known as a lucky hand and who has produced many films of Yash. Jayanna is also a producer and distributor and has a good control over the theatres. Both Mysore Talkies and Jayanna Films office are on the same building in Gandhinagar!

What ever it is. Both Mukunda Murari and Santu Straight Forward are Kannada movies and Chitraloka wishes both movies to be success.

Almost all single screen theaters in Karnataka will be screening Kannada films from tomorrow. This is a bonus for Karnataka Rajyostava. With many films doing well at the box office and the release of Mukunda Murari and Santhu Straight Forward in nearly 300 screens each, over 700 of the 750 theatres in Karnataka will be screening Kannada films film from October 28.

Distributors and exhibitors Chitraloka spoke to say that this is an unprecedented number which was not seen for many years. MM and SSF among them will occupy not less than 500 theatres and many more shows in multiplexes also.

Of the remaining around 250 single screens, Nagarahavu, Dodmane Hudga, Jaguar, Dana Kayonu and Rama Rama Re will have between 25 to 60 screens each. Even big other language films are unable to stand up to this avalanche of Kannada movies.

The Hindi film Ae Dil Hai Mushkil has all of 27 shows in single-screen theatres in Bengaluru. In many of these single screens it has managed to get only one or two shows. Tamil fantasy film Kashmora, which is said to be the highest budget film for actor Karthik has managed to get only 30 shows in single-screen theatres in Bengaluru. Kannada films have occupied all the traditional theatres that screened Hindi, Tamil and Telugu films.

The Kaveri river water crisis that has hit Karnataka in the last two weeks has also upset the plans of many Kannada films. After the bandh and subsequent violence, the direct impact was on the two films that released a day after the bandh. Mungaru Male 2 and Goli Soda lost the release day of September 9. They lost the collections of the opening day. After good showing on Saturday and Sunday they were once again hit by the violence in Bengaluru and other parts of Karnataka from Monday.

But this is not the end of the story. The Kaveri issue is far from over. In a few days, the Cauvery Supervisory Committee is meeting to decide on the quantum of water Karnataka has to release. Karnataka is saying it cannot release any more water. As per the Supreme Court direction, it is releasing water till September 20. If the Committee tells Karnataka to release water after that date, there could be more trouble. If the Committee says no more water, then Tamil Nadu can go to the Supreme Court again and there could be more trouble.

Sensing all this, releases of many films which were lined up for September have been postponed. Earlier Nataraja Service and Naagarahaau were expected to release in September itself. Now they are not releasing. Dodmane Huduga was supposed to release on September 23. Even though the film has already obtained the Censor Certificate, its release has been postponed by a week. Mukunda Murari was earlier scheduled to release on September 30. But it will now happen only in October. In the middle of these big films, many smaller films have also postponed their release indefinitely. Last Friday, at least six films were expected to release. But in the end, only two films dared to release.

If there are no rains in Karnataka in the next few weeks, the crisis could continue in October also. So the releases of Kannada films are severely affected and connected to what will happen in the Kaveri water dispute.

There is a big clash expected at the Sandalwood box office this month-end. Two of the biggest films of the year, the multi-starrer Mukunda Murari starring Upendra and Sudeep and the Yash starrer Santhu Straight Forward are releasing on the same day.

Mukunda Murari is releasing on October 28, the film makers have announced. K Manju the producer of Santhu Straight Forward has also said that he is releasing his film on October 28. Both the films are looking forward to en cash the long holiday season. As many as five holidays are available that week and any film would expect to attract a large number of holiday audience.

It has been a while since two big films have clashed at the Kannada box office. It is always the attempt of film makers not to clash at the box office when the films are big-budget ones.

Especially films of big stars avoid a clash so as not to eat into each other's collections. But this time, it seems a clash is inevitable as both the producers are adamant on releasing the film on October 28 itself.

Sudeep's bike used in the film plays a prominent role and the makers had spent lakhs of money to design the bike. Now that the film is released, the makers are planning to auction the bike. The auction will be held on the 11th of November and whoever calls a highest bid, the bike will be theirs.

After that actors Upendra and Sudeep will be visiting to Siddaganga Mutt in Tumkur and will be donating the amount for charity.

Sudeep's bike used in 'Mukunda Murari' plays a prominent role and the makers had spent lakhs of money to design the bike. The bike was kept at the Menaka theater for exhibition and in the coming days, the bike will tour major cities of Karnataka.

Upendra's schedule is only for one day. With this song, the entire shooting of the film will be complete. The movie is expected to be released by the end of this month. A huge and expensive set for the song is being erected in a studio in Bengaluru. The film is produced jointly by Sudeep's Kichcha Creations, N Kumar and Jayashree Devi.

Sudeep Completes Mukunda Murari

The much awaited multistarrer Mukunda Murari is here and the film turns out to be not just entertaining and fun as promised but also has a deep and profound message for the society. Though it is a serious subject in the undercurrent the story itself has a fun element told in an impassioned but fun style.

The film is about an atheist who files a case against Gods because the insurance company is not paying him insurance because his shop was destroyed in an earthquake. Since the earthquake is not man made but made by God, he cannot get insurance. This impossible case is the crux of the story and Mukunda faces lots of trouble from priests of all religions for his case. Another impossible thing happens as God himself comes to the rescue of Mukunda. 

This plot has lots of fun. Be it situations, incidents or dialogues, there is fun in everything. Apart from that there is a critique of the organised religions and how they have forsaken humanism for the sake of ritualistic religious practices.  But it does not hurt anybody's religious sentiments but only strengthens realistic attitude and love for every human being. Unlike many films which become philosophical and make no sense to the common man, Mukunda Murari is seriously funny while tackling a serious subject. 

It is a role tailor-made for Upendra. And his mannerisms and dialogue delivery makes it so believable. It reminds of Upendra from A,  Upendra and Rakta Kanneru. It is a brilliant performance from him. 

Sudeep is in an extended guest role as Krishna Murari. He looks the part always wearing a smile. This is a role that may well be among those remembered in his entire career as a landmark. Together Upendra and Sudeep make for a deadly combination. 

On the technical front the camera work is awesome. There aren't many songs but those that are are very apt. Thankfully there are no duets or item songs.

Mukunda Murari is one of the best films of the year and a very good story which has a message for the society. It is one of those rare films that will be entertaining for all age groups. Don't dare to miss it.

The upcoming clash of the biggies at the Sandalwood box office on October 28 has made everyone sit up and take notice. The multistarrer Mukunda Murari starring Upendra and Sudeep is heading for a straight clash with Santu Straight Forward, starring the real-life pair of Yash and Radhika Pandit. Though this is not the first time that such a clash of big films is happening in the Kannada film industry, this current clash could be a game changer for many reasons.

Chitraloka gives you a breakdown of what can go right and what could go wrong. It is a common refrain that the Kannada film industry is small compared to the neighbouring industries and should be cautious about investing too much. But today the films of top stars has a minimum budget of Rs 15 crores. Usually it is Rs 20 crore. The next level of stars too are not far behind. The budget of films of these second line of stars cost Rs 10 crore each. 

Whenever films of such top stars release other producers and distributors keep away from releasing their small budget films in the same week. Each and every star film is anxiously waited by the film industry as it can make or break not only the particular producer but the business of many distributors, exhibitors and others are dependent on them. If a big budget film fails at the box office, it will affect the entire industry to some extent. For example, the distributors would then think twice about buying the next big budget film. 

So producers and exhibitors take extra care and see that two movies of big stars do not clash on the same day. This is because even if one fails, the industry will be affected. But they are not successful all the time. There have been many instances of two star films releasing on the same day or a day apart. This has happened for many decades.

Chitraloka collected such statistics from 2010 where star films have clashed. On 14th October 2010, Puneeth Rajkumar starrer Jackie released and the following day on 15th October, Sudeep's movie Kiccha Huccha released. The following year on 8th December 2011 Sudeep starrer Vishnuvardhana released and on the following day 9th December 2011, Ganesh's movie Shyloo released.

In 2012, on November 23rd Yash-starrer Drama and Auditya’s  Edegarike released on the same day. In 2014 Duniya Vijay’s Simhadri released on 2nd October and Dhruva Sarja’s Bahaddur was released on 3rd October. In 2015, the 1st of January saw Ganesh acted Khushi Khushiyagi release and on 2nd, Upendra acted Shivam released. In the same year on August 14th Ganesh and Upendra’s movies clashed again with Buguri and Uppi 2 releasing on the same day.
