P.Sheshadri, the director of Vimukthi, which has won the Best Regional Film National award for the year 2008 is the only Kannada film director to have won five awards for all the five films he has directed so far.
His films Munnudi, Thuththoori, Beru, Athithi and now Vimukthi have won the prestigious National awards. Sheshadri has been always committal in making films revolving around socially releavant films.
Sheshadri may not be as famous as internationally well known film director Girish Kasaravalli, but this committed film director who has been working in making and directing television serials and films has won the big recogniion this time for Vimukthi which is based on a real life incident he saw in Varanasi. He had to shoot the film in Varanasi. For the first time he touched the Electra Complex dealing with the relationship between a father and a daughter.
Vimukthi is the most sensitive film directed by him. Vimukthi was also screened in the International film festival in Goa last year.
P.Sheshadri says winning a National award for the fifth time has really excited him and he want to make films that are centred around contemporary social issues. Most of his films including his first directorial venture Munnudi made in the year 2000 had stories revoling around strong contemporary issues. His other films Athithi, Thuththoori , Beru and Vimukthi have won the National awards.
Vimukthi had actress Bhavana playing the lead role along with Ramakrishna, Aravind, Sania and others. Pravin Godkinid scored the music while Ramachandra is the cameraman of the film.
