Noted Kannada film producer A.Ganesh is now contesting elections to the post of President of the Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce to be held in a few days.
Ganesh himself broke this news in a chat with Chitraloka and claimed that he has the backing from a large section of active young producers.
The post of the President of the KFCC comes on a rotation basis once in three years to the Producers, and now many top producers have been active in choosing the best of the lot. Sensing the mood of some agitated producers who are upset with the way non Kannada films are occupying prime space in the number of available single screens and multiplexes, Ganesh feels it is the right time for a producer who has fought for supremacy of Kannada films to be in the ring and face the contest.
"Well I am serious about this contest. It is not that I will be yielding to the pressure of some of my friends in the last minute and then withdraw. I can assure you that my campaign will go till the last vote is casted for the Presidential election.
I just want to test the waters mainly because I feel it is time to know the strength of pro Kannada forces in the Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce. I have fought for prime place for Kannada films and even went fighting aganist non Kannada films releasing in more number of theatres than the specified numbers. But I am happy that always I have fought on issues in support to Kannada films. I want the support of all Kannada film producers who want the return of the period when Kannada films were ruling supreme' says Ganesh.
Ganesh feels that even exhibitors and distributors who are wholly dependant on Kannada films for their survival would support him.
"The existence of a large number of theatres screening Kannada films are threatened because now the Hindi and other non Kannada films have been having field day and are opting for well maintained theatres. The theatres which were dependant on Kannada films are really facing the heat' says Ganesh.
Simhadariya Simha fame Vijayakumar, Rajendra Singh babu, BN Gangadhar, Janakiram names are moving around for the prestigious post.
